What is the X-Ray LS spine AP and LAT view?

The X-Ray LS (Lumbar Spine) AP and LAT View test is used to visualise the lower back. This contains the lumbar spinal bones (L1–L5), intervertebral discs, and the surrounding soft tissues, such as muscles. The X-ray image is black and white. Dense structures, such as bones, seem white, and softer tissues, including skin and muscles, appear darker.

This test is used to determine the origin of lower back discomfort, look for injuries to the spinal bones, diagnose any suspected tumours, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, or bone infections, and discover probable disc issues.

At City X-Ray & Scan Clinic, this test is usually done with the help of experienced professionals.

The X-Ray LS Spine AP/LAT view price in Delhi usually ranges between ₹600 to ₹1200, depending on the diagnostic centre and technology used. Test reports are typically available on the same day or within 24 hours. You can book the X-Ray LS Spine AP/LAT test at City X-Ray through online booking, phone, WhatsApp, or a walk-in visit.

Why do I need to do an X-Ray LS spine AP/LAT view?

An LS spine X-ray AP (anterior-to-posterior) is mostly used to detect abnormalities and disorders affecting the lower spine's bones. It aids in the assessment of the vertebral bodies, intervertebral discs, and surrounding bony structures. This test uses small doses of radiation to create images of the bones in the lower spine, which can assist in detecting fractures, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, aberrant spinal curvatures, spondylolisthesis, and bone spurs.

Doctors may recommend this imaging test for the following conditions:

Chronic or chronic back discomfort.
Suspected scoliosis, kyphosis, or lordosis
Vertebral compression fractures.
Degenerative Disc Disease
Spondylolisthesis
Postural imbalance.
Pre-operative spine assessment.
Follow-up after spinal surgery.
Osteoporosis causes a decrease.

What parameters are checked in X-Ray LS spine AP/LAT view?

The parameters that are checked in X-Ray LS spine AP/LAT view are listed below:

Bone alignment
Joint space width
Fracture lines
Osteophytes, also known as bone spurs

Benefits of X-Ray LS spine AP and LAT view

Diagnose Structural Issues: Detects vertebral fractures, bone density abnormalities (osteoporosis), and changes in the form of the vertebra.
Identify Alignment Abnormalities: Detects scoliosis (sideways curve), lordosis (excessive inward curve), and other lower spine misalignments.
Evaluate Chronic Pain: Examines joints, bone, and overall structure to determine the source of long-term lower back pain.
Monitor Diseases and Treatment: Tracks the evolution of illnesses such as osteoarthritis and determines whether therapies for injuries or spinal infections are effective.
Detect Degenerative Changes: Checks for evidence of spondylolisthesis (vertebral slippage) and disc space narrowing.
Rapid & Accessible: It is a quick and readily available diagnostic tool that helps doctors make preliminary assessments before considering more advanced, pricey imaging like MRI or CT scans.

Conclusion

A lumbosacral spine X-ray is an imaging procedure that allows your doctor to see the bones of your lower back. It employs modest amounts of electromagnetic radiation to assist healthcare professionals in assessing bone fractures, joint problems, and other disorders. A beam of X-rays creates a two-dimensional image on a specific detector. The individual stands straight or lies down horizontally in an exam gown, with no bodily movements.

The process takes around 10 to 20 minutes, and there are no side effects. Body jewellery and piercings are not permitted during the X-ray treatment. Women with prospective pregnancies must notify authorities ahead of time to ensure their safety. Abnormal results may indicate fractures, slipped discs, osteoporosis, arthritis, tumours, or other congenital problems that require rapid medical attention.
